Obituario Gonzalo Chacón Vargas 9 de septiembre, 1930 – 05 de mayo, 2022 Nuestro padre, Gonzalo Chacón Vargas, nació el martes 9 de setiembre de 1930. Él se inició trabajando a la edad de seis años, en un molino de caña. Posteriormente, él trabajó como agricultor y como ganadero. Más tarde, a la edad de veinte años, contrajo matrimonio con nuestra madre, Sra. Sofía Gutiérrez Hernández. Ambos engendraron cinco hombres y nueve mujeres. A nuestro padre lo caracterizó el trabajo arduo, el entusiasmo y el constante deseo de superación intelectual de todos sus hijos. Sin embargo, ese deseo no solo se quedó en buenos deseos, sino que luchó solicitando al gobierno, local y federal, por el reclutamiento de maestros para las nuevas escuelas locales. Más aún, nuestro padre donó el terreno para que se construyera una de las primeras escuelas rurales. Nuestro padre Gonzalo Chacón, también solicitó el apoyo de la comunidad y de las autoridades municipales para la construcción de la primera carretera que daría acceso a la comunidad. Para algunos detractores, estos proyectos fueron insignificantes. Pero, para la gran mayoría de la comunidad estos proyectos fueron un gran avance para la prosperidad comunal. De esa semilla, surgieron profesionales como secretarios públicos, profesores y psicólogos. Pero lo más importante fue que a ningún niño se le dejó sin tener la oportunidad de tener una educación básica. Para nuestro padre, el saber “leer y escribir” era el paso más importante para un futuro seguro. Nosotros los hijos, atestiguamos con mucho orgullo que, aunque nuestro padre no sabía ni leer ni escribir, ahora, su descendencia directa cuenta con hijos y nietos doctores, profesores universitarios, contadores y profesionales en relaciones públicas. Así como también profesionales en el campo de la investigación a nivel del gobierno estatal y otros que han estudiado ciencias políticas. Lo mencionado queda corto con lo que nuestro padre ha hecho en su prolífica vida. Esto no lo mencionamos como vanagloria sino como un gran reconocimiento a este gran hombre quien en vida fue nuestro amado padre: Gonzalo Chacón. ¡Gracias, papá! Muchas gracias por todo nos diste. Tus hijos. Obituary Gonzalo Chacon Vargas September 9, 1930 – May 5, 2022 Our father, Gonzalo Chacon Vargas, was born on Tuesday, September 9, 1930. He started working at the age of six in a cane mill. Subsequently, he worked as a farmer and rancher. Later, at the age of twenty, he married our mother, Ms. Sofia Gutierrez Hernandez. They give birth to five men and nine women. Our father was characterized by the hard work, enthusiasm, and constant desire for the intellectual improvement of all his children. However, that desire not only remained in good wishes but fought by petitioning the government, local and federal, for the recruitment of teachers for the new regional schools. Moreover, our father donated the land for one of the first rural schools to be built. Our father, Gonzalo Chacon, also requested the community’s support and the municipal authorities to construct the first road that would give access to the community. For some, these projects were insignificant. But, for most of the community, these projects were a breakthrough for communal prosperity. Professionals such as public secretaries, professors, and psychologists emerged from that seed. But most importantly, no child was left without the opportunity to have primary education. For our father, knowing how to “read and write” was the most critical step toward a secure future. We, the children, testify with great pride that, although our father could neither read nor write, his grandchildren are now doctors, university professors, accountants, and professionals in public relations. Others are professionals in research at the state government level, and others have studied political science. The above falls short of what our father has done in his prolific life. We do not mention this as vainglory but as a great recognition of this great man who was our beloved father in life: Gonzalo Chacon. “Thank you, Dad!
