Grace F. Hill

Grace F. Hill, born June 21, 1921 to Antonio and Adele Spinetti in Santa Cruz, California. She left us on August 6, 2013 in Rancho Mirage, California, having moved from San Leandro, California, where she lived for 45 years. Our mother grew up in Watsonville, California along with her sister Josephine Yappert (deceased) and brother Jim (Fumie)Spinetti (deceased). She attended Springfield Elementary School and graduated from Watsonville High in 1940. Our mother was married twice. First to Lawrence Fergoda (Debi) who died while she was pregnant and Bill Hill (divorced, deceased). Our mother was an amazing woman, brave, trailblazer, strong, independent are only a few of the words we can think of to describe her. She wanted most to have a career and make her own money. For a woman of the 1940’s this was not considered the norm. She owned a beauty salon at the Resetar Hotel In Watsonville, California. In the 1960’s she moved to San Leandro and opened the San Leandro Beauty School and the San Bruno Beauty Academy. After closing the San Leandro Beauty School our mother opened “The Hair Trap” in San Leandro. In her 70’s she decided she was slowing down and sold “The Hair Trap” and went to work part time at” Hair and Now” until she was 86. Our mother didn’t enjoy traveling, instead she enjoyed her home and friends and entertaining. Her homes were always a great sense of pride for her. The Oakland Hills home was picked as one of the most beautiful homes in the Bay area in 1967 and put on their home tour. Holidays at her home in San Leandro were always amazing with gifts wrapped to perfection flowing across the living room, and a lot of laughter. Our mother was an amazing woman. She had a heart of gold and cared deeply for her family and friends. Her kindness and big heart were so much a part of her. We are so proud of what she achieved in her life and the person she was. Grace is survived by daughter Debi Alameda (Tom) of Rancho Mirage, son Trent (Darlene) of Hollister: her grandchildren Mandiey, Molly,Joey, Heather, Brandon, Bryson, her great-grandchildren Layla, Kaylee, Jake and loving nieces and nephews & Family. No funeral will take place per our mother’s wishes. We will be scattering her ashes at sea at a later date.
