A proud Army veteran, James carried the values of service, loyalty, and perseverance throughout his life. His military service shaped not only his character but also the way he showed up for others—with steadiness, practicality, and a deep sense of responsibility. He was not a man of many words, but his actions spoke clearly: he was someone people could count on when it mattered most. James lived life on his own terms. He was never drawn to organized religion and chose instead to define meaning in his own way—through lived experience, personal conviction, and the relationships he maintained. While his life included moments of disrupted trust and hardship, he continued forward with determination, shaping his own path with honesty and resolve. He was a devoted family man and leaves behind children who carry forward his legacy in their own lives. His family remained an important part of his world, and in his final chapter, their presence reflected a bond that endured through time and complexity. As James faced end of life, he was thankful to have the chaplain for added support, where he was met with comfort, dignity, and respect. The hospice team considered it a privilege to walk alongside him when they provided support when he needed care, they also recognized the many ways he had stood for others throughout his life. His care included support not only for him but also for his family, including Christy. James expressed clear wishes for his final arrangements. He chose burial and desired to be laid to rest alongside his spouse, honoring a connection that remains meaningful beyond his lifetime. His care team is assisting the family with coordinating these wishes, including guidance regarding his veteran burial benefits. Though not guided by religion, James’s life can be honored through a service that reflects who he was: a man of action, integrity, and independence.
