Obituary God called John Douglas Brown forth to HIS glory and eternity on November 29, 2024,after a very long and blessed life with his wife, family, and friends. John was born on October 17, 1927.He was the 4thchild out of 5 children born to the late Sam and Jessie Brown in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, who proceeded him in death. At the age of 15, John moved to Akron, Ohio with his family where he later met Mary Brown, his teenage sweetheart who became his wife. They moved to Los Angeles, CA, raising their three children, John Brown Jr. (deceased), Wenda (Story) Brown, and Felecia Brown. In John’s retirement, he and his wife moved to Victorville, CA until the end of his life’s journey. John attended school in Akron, Ohio. He would reminisce about his favorite teacher, Miss Hopkins. He took pride in being her errand monitor and her favorite student. John was known to be a hard worker and a great provider for his wife and family. He made sure all of their needs and some of their greed’s were met. John worked two jobs for several years before retiring from the County of Los Angeles in their maintenance department and working as a presser in dry cleaning for over 20plus years. John was known to be a kindhearted man’s man that you did not mess with. He was chivalrous and would not miss an opportunity to open doors and pull out his wallet for others. If it was not for his wife, he would have died broke but most of all, the standard of manhood was set for his family for generations to come. As John loved his wife, it became a testimony of their marriage. Their marriage was a force that stood the test of time for over 78 years by the grace of God. To have known John is to have experienced his comedy sets during family and friends’ gatherings. He missed his calling. He loved a good joke and had great comedic timing. John also loved baseball. He played in the minor leagues and coached little leagues with children in the community. He would never miss a moment to play catch with the neighborhood boys just walking down the street. They were open to being recruited on his little league team before they knew it. The boys would take the opportunity to play ball with John in front of his house to get a lineup position for the upcoming games. They would walk by his houses saying, “Mr. Brown, you’re going to let me pitch?” This is how he served his community and most of all, serving God. He was a father to many children in the community. John had a heart for God’s word, gospel music, and His people. He showed his love for God in his actions towards others. John last attended he High Desert church in Victorville, CA before getting ill. He had a special seat that the greeters would save just for him every Sunday. Now he is sitting front and center, worshiping his Heavenly Father. Preceding him in death is Sam and Jessie Brown (Parents); Bay Hundely, Jerry Brown, Helen Yokum, and Jim Brown(siblings); John Brown, Jr. Helen being his favorite, John continued to ask about her to the very end (son).John leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Mary Brown; two daughters Wenda and Felecia Brown ;three grandsons, Jont’e Story, Samad and Milo Brown; Sister-in-law Ruby (Jerry) Brown; two great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, loving relatives, and friends.
