Ronald Lee Sergeant

Ronald Lee Sergeant, a dedicated and hardworking man who cherished his family above all else, has left a permanent mark on the lives of those around him. On August 28, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones, Ron embarked on his final journey, leaving behind a legacy of love, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community. Born July 18, 1943, to Dale and Margaret Sergeant, Ron’s strong work ethic and love for his family were evident from an early age. He found his calling and passion in the family business, Sergeant Excavating, which is now alive in its fourth generation. Ron’s dedication and hard work were instrumental in the success and growth of the business, leaving a lasting impact on the community it served. In addition to his involvement in the family business, Ron spent some time working for the Roscommon County Road Commission. Starting as a mechanic and truck driver, he quickly rose through the ranks and became a foreman. Ron’s commitment to excellence and his ability to lead by example earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ron’s true joy in life came from his role as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He shared a full life with his wife, Kathy (Grost) Sergeant, to whom he was married for 43 years, and together they created a loving and nurturing home for their four children. Shavonne (Kevin), Stephanie, Ron II (Meghan), and Nick (Amber), were blessed to have a dad who not only provided for them but also instilled in them the values of hard work, integrity, and compassion. Ron’s legacy extends to his grandchildren, Miranda (David), Lexy, Serena, Helen, Ronnie III, Julia and Patrick as well as great-grandsons, Maverick and Wesson, who will always remember his warm smile, kind heart, and endless love. He took great delight in their achievements, cherishing every moment he spent with them. Siblings, Linda (Larry), Dennis, and Nanci (Larry) were not only Ron’s family but most importantly his lifelong friends. Through the joys and challenges of life, they and their families stood by each other’s sides, offering unwavering support and love. His many cousins, nieces and nephews held important places in his life as well! Ron was also a lifelong hotrod enthusiast, owning and building several cool rides throughout his lifetime. Traveling to car shows, camping, and spending time with family filled his life. His passing leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of his loved ones, but they find peace in knowing that his memory will forever be etched in their hearts. His remarkable spirit and dedication to his family will continue to inspire and guide them through life’s journeys. A Luncheon Celebration of Ron’s life will be held from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm, Saturday, October 7th at the Markey Township Hall, 7400 E Houghton Lake Dr, Houghton Lake, MI. It will be an opportunity for family, friends, and members of the community to come together, share cherished memories, and honor the remarkable life of a man who touched so many lives.
